Last night, April 14, 2013, The McCartney Years received the Jack Richardson Music Award for Cover Band/Tribute Artist. It was the second time we had received the honour, following our first win in 2009.
When I started The McCartney Years, my goal was to create an authentic live concert experience that respected Paul McCartney’s music. I wanted to get the arrangements, instruments, costumes and small details right while still capturing the energy and excitement of the original performances.
Receiving the award for the first time was an important moment for me. Winning it again four years later showed that this band is continuing to grow and that our audiences appreciate what we are working to create.
The award was also especially meaningful because of its connection to London’s music community. It was named after legendary Canadian producer Jack Richardson, who worked with artists including The Guess Who, Alice Cooper, Bob Seger and Badfinger. He also helped nurture new generations of Canadian talent through his work at Fanshawe College.
I have always viewed these awards as recognition of the entire production. Thanks a zillion to Braden, Darryl, Karen, David, and Aaron who contributed so much to this show, plus our audiences who came out in droves to see us over the past couple of years, because none of it would have been possible without your support!
Becoming a two-time Jack Richardson Music Award winner will remain a proud part of our history. More than anything, it reminds me of how far the show has come and how much of its journey is still ahead.
